The Truth About Fur
"We don't live the lives of Eskimos. We don't need to kill animals for fashion." --Charlize Theron
Animals on fur farms spend their entire lives confined to tiny, filthy cages, constantly pacing back and forth from stress and boredom.
Some fur farmers kill animals by anal or vaginal electrocution. Animals who are electrocuted experience the intense pain of a heart attack while fully conscious.
PETA caught one fur farmer in Maryland killing minks by injecting an insecticide into their hearts. This crude method of killing causes animals to convulse for up to 10 minutes before they die.
Other killing methods include gassing and suffocation. Sometimes animals are only stunned and may be skinned alive.
Animals caught in steel-jaw traps endure excruciating pain from the steel bars clamped on their legs, paws, or torsos.
Trapped animals suffer in traps for hours or even days before having their chests stomped on or their necks broken by trappers.
Traps also cripple and kill thousands of dogs, cats, and other animals caught by mistake. Sometimes they chew off their own paws to escape.
Steel-jaw leghold traps are so notoriously cruel that they have been banned in more than 70 countries and in some states.
