"Cowardice asks the question, 'Is it safe?' Expediency asks the question, 'Is it polite?' Vanity asks the question, 'Is it popular?' But conscience asks the question, 'Is it right?' And there comes a point when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor polite, nor popular, but one must take it because one's conscience tells him or her that it is right." - Martin Luther King Jr

Every Saturday and Sunday along the busy stretch of 71st St between 169 and Memorial, a dozen or more dealers pull into parking lots and begin selling their live "products" out of RVs, pick-up trucks and other vehicles. Tulsa has a severe problem with pet overpopulation and every year thousands of animals are put to death at the city shelter at taxpayer expense. Depite this fact, these dealers are being allowed to sell puppies that have not been spayed or neutered with little or no regulation. The police are not enforcing the laws already on the books because they view it as a "low priority."
Contact the Mayor's Office, the City Council, and the Police Department and tell them this activity needs to be stopped now! Tulsa does not need an animal market that is more in line with something found in a third world country.

After months of phone calls and letters, Miss Jackson's still refuses to make even the slightest compromise in stopping its support of animal torture. Now it is up to us to make change their minds. Boycott all goods from Miss Jackson's! Call and complain! Write letters! Go to the store and make some noise! We cannot stand aside and let the torture continue.

Miss Jackson's
Baylor University in Texas has two captive bears as mascots. These black bear sisters are six months and eighteen months old and are kept in separate cages. Their surroundings are stark and barren, and they pace constantly, the younger one crying to herself. Baylor has a history of keeping bears like this and then dumping them when they get too big to manhandle. They have promised to end their "use" of live animals in the past, but these are meaningless words.
More information about Bayloyr's abuse of the bears is available at www.BaylorBearAbuse.com
Contact Baylor and tell them what you think of live mascots, in particular the mistreatment of live mascots. (The following mailing address and phone and fax numbers apply to both men.)

From SHAC USA:
Once again, after months of being without one, HLS has obtained market makers. Both companies have been contacted
by SHAC, and both have stated they don't care that they are facilitating trades in a company that kills 500 animals
every day. Well...MAKE THEM CARE!!
[Note: Market Makers facilitate a company's quoting on a stock exchange. Because HLS rarely has one, they are rarely quoted on any board.]

Ask Shriners to End Animal Acts
The Shriners are known for helping children, yet their circus fundraisers can threaten children's safety by using dangerous animals. In 1997, a caged bear chomped part of a 2-year-old's finger off at a Shrine Circus in Grand Rapids, Michigan; three years earlier, children suffered injuries during an elephant ride at a Shrine-sponsored circus in Muskegon, Michigan.
For the 60th year the Akdar Shrine brought a circus to town for their annual fundraiser in February. The George Carden Circus has a long history of documented abuse and animal care violations. We believe that the Shriners could raise just as much -- if not more -- money by using a non-animal circus. Love for animals and love for people are not mutually exclusive but in fact go hand-in-hand.
Lions Clubs International, the world's largest service club association, recently advised its chapters to beware of using circuses and other events that may abuse animals used as part of the entertainment. Help us in encouraging the Shriners to continue their wonderful work for children without harming animals.
